All her life, tenderhearted Ada Caldwell has satisfied the expectations set by her family and society, taking comfort in the predictability of their strictures. But the moment she decided to unravel the working that bound her fae blood, every hope of an ordinary, peaceful future vanished.
Hated for her heritage by unwilling allies and targeted by an unknown stalker whose unnatural melodies fill her ears, Ada now faces danger on all sides. She constrains her abilities for fear of what she’s becoming and what harm she could cause to those she loves. But when Other closes in, she won’t be able to keep hiding her true nature—not if she wants to survive.
This novelette takes place concurrently with Mirror of Argent, book four in the Blood of the Fae series. While a self-contained story, it contains spoilers for Mirror of Argent and assumes prior knowledge of series events.

1 review for Wraith of Thorns
Jessa has left the care of her family in the hands of the Redgraves. While they treat the aunts and Ainslie well, Ada is left to deal with the aftermath of the family’s discovery. She feels lost and more alone than ever before despite having her twin by her side. Ainslie insists they can weather this together but it is clear more than ever to Ada that their paths are diverging from each other in a way they never expected. While trying to find some time away from the suffocating presence Ada feels while at the Redgrave’s Manor she is cornered into a deal with Other. Ada is smart enough to know there are hidden traps and unspoken rules within deals but quickly realizes her stubborn want of being blind to Other is harmful not only to her but her family as well. While dealing with the consequences of her ignorance she vows to stop being a liability and finds help in an unexpected ally.
I always enjoy seeing events and characters from an outside perspective. We get Jessa’s sister Ada again and we see how the events from Mirrors of Argent are affecting not just her but other family members. How the lack of Jessa being around is definitely felt and that maybe how Jessa sees and holds herself is a bit self-imposed. The developments in this novella are going to have far-reaching consequences, both good and bad, for Jessa and Riven moving forward. We get a mysterious Other, maybe one we have even met before unbeknownst to the reader, and they will clearly need to be dealt with. The unexpected ally isn’t quite totally unexpected if you have read Mirrors of Argent but their more candid view of Jessa had me cackling a few times. This ally will probably make things worse before it gets better and I am all for seeing this blow up in their face.
